For those of you who have listened to Endless Possibilities (The theme for Sonic Unleashed) may not know that the lyrics have a secret meaning, or at least thats what Dr. Dib thinks over at ScrewAttack.com. He explains how this has happened with other songs from the Sonic series and how they all seem to in some way explain the history of Sonic. This is what he came up with for Endless Possibilities.
“Note: The lyrics may not be correct since I”m guessing them from hearing it alone. No official lyric sheet exists at this time. Lyrics will appear first and a song meaning under them in parenthesis.”
This is my escape, I’m running through this world and I’m not looking back
(Sonic is escaping from his string of poorly made games and never looking back at his past game. He prefers to just move forward)
Cuz I know I can go, where no one else has gone and I’m not looking back
(Sonic realizes that he can make a great game like no one else. The end is the same as the first line’s meaning)
But how will I know when I get there? And how will I know when to leave?
(This seems to be a direct response to criticism. Sonic fans have been complaining about various aspects of Sonic games and them either coming back or not coming back. Sonic wonders when he can please everyone and when he should stop what pleased them)
We’ve all got to start from somewhere It’s like that for me, the possibilities are never ending
(Sonic realizes that he has to do something even if it’s right or wrong and that there are unlimited possibilities for making a game)
I see it I see it and now its all within my reach [Endless Possibilities repeat]
(Sonic sees what it takes to make a good game and now he can make one)
I see it I see it now its always been inside of me and now I feel so free [Endless Possibilities]
(Sonic realizes that he can make a good game and has always had the chance to make it. Now he feels free of the pressure that his franchise is dying)
You’re losing speed! You’re losing your flow!
(This is the voice of critics that Sonic is becoming to slow. I’m guessing the flow part means the flow of good games or that they aren’t the same)
Well inside me a power you’ll never know
(Sonic basically says FU to these people by saying that if you give up on him you’ll miss a great game. Or maybe this is part of my over analyzation and it just refers to the werehog)
Just let it out it’s inside you
(These are the fans who stuck with Sonic telling him to show us a great game. It may also be the skeptical critics)
Better all step back cuz I’m comin through!
(Sonic is letting loose and making a great game)
